Hanwha TotalEnergies Petrochemical produces highly purified basic petrochemicals and base chemicals
such as ethylene, propylene, SM, and PX, which are used as raw materials for petrochemical products
INTRODUCTION
As for base chemical business, Hanwha TotalEnergies Petrochemical produces the base chemicals of
petrochemical industry, such as ethylene, propylene, butadiene, benzene, toluene,
para-xylene and styrene monomer to supply to customer.
BUSINESS STATUS
Hanwha TotalEnergies Petrochemical is strengthening the competitiveness of raw materials by producing naphtha
optimized for NCC and each aromatics plant through its condensate fractionation unit (CFU), and a condensate
(ultra-light oil) refining facility. In regards to Hanwha TotalEnergies Petrochemical's flagship products, paraxylene (PX)
and styrene monomer (SM), Hanwha TotalEnergies Petrochemicalghest level of production scale among the domestic
petrochemical companies. In case of SM, Hanwha TotalEnergies Petrochemical has the largest production capacity
of 1.04 million tons per year in Korea and PX also shows annual output of about 2 million tons,
which is the largest as a single plant in Korea.

SM Styrene Monomer
It is a liquid type product with a unique odor, produced by reacting ethylbenzene,
a compound of benzene and ethylene, which is used as a raw material
for polystyrene (PS), SBR, ABS. ex) A raw material for PS, SBR, ABS
BZ Benzene
It is an aromatic product in liquid form with a unique odor, which is produced in an aromatics
plant with toluene and xylene and used as a raw material for styrene monomer (SM). ex) A raw material for SM
PX Para-Xylene
It is a colorless transparent liquid produced by distilling or bisecting xylene produced
in the aromatics plant. It is used as a raw material for high purity terephthalic acid (PTA). ex) A raw material for PTA
EG Ethylene Glycol
It is a colorless odorless liquid form product, which is produced by reacting ethylene oxide
(EO) produced by oxidizing ethylene with water. It is used as a raw material for antifreeze,
or for polyester products when it added with PTA. ex) A raw material for antifreeze, polyester
EO Ethylene Oxide
It is a colorless gas at room temperature and has high reactivity with various compounds,
which resulting in having strong sterilizing power and insecticidal power.
It is used as a gaseous disinfectant for medical devices and packaging containers.

EL Ethylene
It is a basic petrochemical (C2) produced by pyrolizing naphtha, and LPG, which is
colorless gas at room temperature and is in liquid form at high pressure and low
temperature (-104˚C) environment. It is used as a raw material for ethylene-based
products such as polyethylene (PE) and PVC. ex) A raw material for PE, PVC
PL Propylene
It is a basic petrochemical (C3) produced by pyrolyzing naphtha in NCC along with ethylene.
It is in colorless gas form at room temperature. It is used as a raw material for
propylene-based products such as polypropylene (PP). ex) A raw material for PP
BD Butadiene
It is a gaseous raw material with n unique odor at room temperature, which is extracted
from basic petrochemical (C4) produced as a by-product during naphtha decomposition.
It is used as a raw material for synthetic rubber such as SBR, and BR. ex) A raw material for synthetic rubber such as SBR, and BR
